'This is our story and we can't please everyone. If we can help a couple of families who are going through the same thing we did, then we’ve done something right'.
Brian Dowling and Arthur Gourounlian have told how they hope their new documentary about their journey to becoming parents will help “start a conversation” — and help other families undergoing their own journeys.
Brian told Chic about what viewers will be able to expect from the documentary — and what inspired them to share their journey. “They’re going to get a chance to hear from Aoife, to see her being interviewed and going about her day. “But I think that we shared the right amount. We feel like being vulnerable can be a good thing, showing the emotion and how you’re feeling.”
“It’s a look into our lives, which is why we wanted to be as transparent as possible. Because you see us on social media, you’re having fun with us — but there are things that you won’t see on social media, like going through everything to make this happen. He said, "For us, we were doing all of this pre-legislation changing. Obviously, we’ve both wanted a family for years — but we only started taping the documentary last June. So for us, we can’t believe how lucky we are — we had a baby in September 2022 and now we’re in early 2023 and the legislation is changing.Brian Dowling and Arthur Gourounlian celebrate baby Blake’s first Christmas
“But I do think that [after comments] during the pregnancy and since Blake was born, I feel like on social media, there has to be rules and regulations. Some of the things people have been saying have been so offensive and hurtful — and also not true.” “We can’t please everyone in the world. This is our story — and if their point of view is bad, just leave it be. There’s nothing that we can do, not everybody is going to love us.”
“She’s six months now and she’s got all of her personality. She sits up. She’s on the spoon. She’s really sassy and she’s just got such a great personality.”
