Brian Harvey's rollercoaster life – from worrying public outbursts to 'potato-gate'
The 1990s boyband star was hospitalised and later arrested on Thursday 22 March, with Scotland Yard reporting that they were called to an address in Walthamstow, east London, on Thursday following reports a man was threatening to harm himself.
East 17 sacking Walthamstow-born Harvey originally auditioned to be a backing singer in East 17, but when music big wigs heard his voice they thrust him into the starring role. Due to the severity of the injuries, police originally believed that a machete or an axe was used during the assault, before concluding it was something smaller.
The harrowing moment came as fans claimed Harvey was feeling "desperate" in the weeks prior, following the slow decent of his music career and the death of his grandmother. He is still remembered for it to this day, even mocking himself in 2015, as he sang Meridian Dan’s German Whip but replaced some of the lyrics with “jacket potato and cheese and that”.Money woes Despite selling 18 million records during the 90s, and enjoying 17 top 20 singles with his bandmates – Tony Mortimer, John Hendy and Terry Coldwell – Harvey fell on hard times and was unable to make a living after his boyband days.
Public outbursts Harvey has hit the headlines at multiple points throughout his career for his worrying public outbursts. He then proceeded to smash it against a bin, saying: “That’s what I think of you’re f***ing music industry.” Plus, in the same year, the musician slammed BBC Radio 1 as a "commercial poo bag station," in a foul mouthed rant.
