Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has heaped praise on Ruairi McConville following the Northern Ireland youngster's impressive FA Cup debut against Norwich.
Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has hailed debut star Ruairi McConville after the Northern Ireland international made his first-team debut in Saturday’s 4-0 FA Cup romp away to Norwich. McConville came off the bench to replace Adam Webster for the final 20 minutes - and was on the pitch as Solly March completed the scoring with a spectacular strike.
Defender McConville has already been capped twice at senior international level under Michael O’Neill, having risen through the underage ranks with Northern Ireland. The Belfast-born prospect moved to Brighton from Linfield in 2021 and progressed from the under-18s. Hurzeler praised the work being done at youth level at the Premier League club and commended McConville for making the most of his chance to impress on Saturday. \“It’s the Brighton way to develop young players,” he said. “They do a great job in the Academy and we have an unbelievable under-21 coach in Shannon Ruth. “Ruairi is very mature for his age, a great personality and deserved to be in the squad. I’m happy he had his chance today and he took it impressively. It will be interesting to see how he develops.” \McConville made his senior Northern Ireland debut last November in the 2-0 win against Belarus, and he featured again three days later in the 2-2 draw away to Luxembourg
