Manchester City continued on their path towards yet another Premier League title on Thursday night - and were given a helping hand by Brighton's calamitous defending
Brighton have drawn heavy criticism for their naïve playing style which saw them put to the sword by Manchester City.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side have been decimated by injuries and had won just four of their last 17 league matches coming into the match, meaning there was only faint hope they might pull off a miracle against City. Those hopes quickly faded as Pep Guardiola ’s team asserted their dominance by scoring three times in the first half.
The goal promoted this response from former Arsenal striker Alan Smith on co-commentary for Sky Sports: "It was one pass too many from Brighton. You can feel the nerves inside the stadium when they start playing five-a-side in their own box. Brentford defender Ben Mee made a similar a point on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Brighton have some good players, but they're not in a good run of form at the moment. You admire the bravery they have on the ball, but when it's not going your way, you need to change things up sometimes. You can't be making mistakes in your own box like they have done at 2-0 down.”
