While they didn’t win the BGT title, they’ve won the adoration of thousands at home in Uganda. But after their appearance on, campaigners have seized the moment to raise the alarm about the dangers of orphanages.
The Ghetto Kids group was put together by Inspire Ghetto Kids Foundation, a nonprofit set up by Kavuma Dauda, a Ugandan volunteer who rescued the children in Katwe slum, Kampala. “I have 30 kids that I’m taking care of,” he said on the show. “Some are orphans.”, north of capital Kampala, until he was rescued.
In April, five of the Ghetto Kids. wearing green “kitenge” clothes, were led on to the BGT stage by Ant and Dec. They were described as “amazing” by Tonioli and “incredible” by fellow judge Alesha Dixon.saying: “While we appreciate that some may see the opportunity for these talented children to showcase their skills on an international platform, we cannot endorse the institutionalisation of children.
