A 70-year-old British tourist drowned while swimming at Son Bou beach in Menorca, Spain. Despite efforts to revive him, emergency services were unable to save him. The man's wife was on the beach at the time of the incident. The cause of death has been confirmed as drowning.
The 70-year-old British man was swimming at Son Bou beach, the island’s longest, on its south coast when the incident happened on Monday.
A major rescue operation was launched and emergency services spent more than an hour trying to revive the man, who has not yet been identified, but sadly were unable to save him.Local reports in Menorca said the man had been with his wife at the time, who had stayed on the beach while he went into the water. It's believed the couple travelled there to celebrate his birthday.The incident happened around 5pm on Monday and the man’s nationality has been made public today.
In June 2022, an Irish tourist drowned while swimming in the sea off Menorca. The 69-year-old was visiting the Balearic island on holiday when they got in to trouble in the area of Paupa near Cala Torret.
