The late Queen Elizabeth loved 'wonderful' cucumber sandwiches
As the mercury soars across the country, you can take a leaf out of the Royal family's book and use a 52p special ingredient to give your snacks some zing.
She said: "The most wonderful thing that happened at one of the Buckingham Palace garden parties that I was lucky enough to go to was not the fact of the scones but the cucumber sandwiches. "I will never make a cucumber sandwich without chopped mint in it again." The sandwiches were made with white bread, buttered, and topped with sliced cucumber, a dash of mint, and a sprinkle of pepper.
Her preference was for for Earl Grey or Assam, with a splash of milk added afterward, and she also loved a slice of chocolate biscuit cake, according to her former chef, Darren McGrady.
