A number of people that we spoke didn't feel like it went far enough
The Irish Mirror spoke to a number of people to get their on what was announced in yesterday's Budget.
Linda, who works as a special needs assistant, added: “It’s not going to fix everything such as the rate of inflation but the Budget announcements are a welcome relief. “Schools need more SNAs, I’d say there are very few classes around the country that don't have a student with special needs so it’s a very welcome measure.”George was “disgusted” and felt the Government completely forgot about pensioners during the Budget announcement yesterday.
He said everyday essentials have surged in price, particularly dog food, and said yesterday’s pension bump just won’t cut it. “The grey brigade is here and we’re annoyed … there was an opportunity to do better. I’m really disappointed.”Chloe was delighted that the maintenance grant had been increased and said it would help her out massively.
“It’s not a huge amount but money is being put back into my pocket and that’s the main thing. I think a lot of students will be very happy with what the Government announced.“We missed our school graduation, we missed our debs, we missed our first year in college so it’s great that students were looked after in the Budget.”
The 50-year-old from Tallaght said more people will now be able to access the carers allowance after the Government upped the threshold. “They have increased the domiciliary care allowance, they increased the weekly carers payment, the incapacitated child tax credit was also increased, there were lots of little things that were good that happened.“The social welfare payments before Christmas will help out massively but it doesn't mean extra presents, it just means getting over the hump of Christmas.
The History and English teacher also said the increase in the renters' tax credit from €500 to €750 was welcome but said he wished it was more.Speaking yesterday, Conall said: “My partner and I try to save as much as we can. We’re both in steady jobs. He added: “There are some positives in the Budget but if I’m truly honest the things that I really wanted to be tackled such as housing and education haven’t been addressed.”Bernard was raising a glass after yesterday’s Budget announcement because the price of a pint was left alone.
He said he wasn’t surprised that the price of cigarettes has gone up again because they go up every year.
