The government is dangerously close to a return to Celtic Tiger-era spending and risks plunging Ireland into austerity, the state’s independent budgetary watchdog has warned.
The Irish Fiscal Advisory Council was deeply critical of the government’s proposed spending plans for this October’s budget, saying it “undermined the credibility” of the state and would only fuel worse inflation in the economy.
