Bumble open sources AI code to automatically blur NFSW photos

Bumble has open sourced an AI image classifier model designed to automatically blur nude pictures sent on its dating app., dubbed Private Detector, was launched on Bumble in 2019. If it detects fleshy skin tones and characteristic shapes of sensitive body parts, the model blurs out the image to prevent a user from potentially unsolicited NSFW pictures. People who have been sent these naughty nudes are warned and can decide if they want to open and see an unfiltered version of the image or not.

Bumble said only 0.1 percent of users send lewd images. Nevertheless, the company was able to collect a large"best-in-the-industry dataset" featuring naked and non-naked photographs. It also included pictures of edge cases to make the Private Detector more robust against benign images of people's arms or legs.
