Bumper-sized Clitheroe Food Festival could become 'challenge' for Ribble Valley Council

Clitheroe Food Festival’s return this summer after two years of pandemic cancellations was a success but there will be challenges in expanding it to a two-day event next year, Ribble Valley councillors are being advised.

Recently, empty shops in Clitheroe were highlighted at a full council meeting. Earlier this year, calls for help with more Covid recovery grants or business rates relief, and the impact of road work disruption were raised by traders in Whalley. “This was the first event after a break of two years following the pandemic. But the absence appeared not to have diminished the demand by residents and visitors for the mix of food, drink and entertainment’.

COSTS TO THE COUNCIL Ribble Valley Council says the festival is staged to attract people to the borough as well as providing a day-out for residents. Financially, it free to attend. The arrangements are not intended to cover the costs of staging the festival, the economic committee report states.
