The house in Chiltern Avenue, Burnley, has been reclaimed by its social housing provider
A social housing provider has repossessed a house where the tenants were indulging in anti-social behaviour and blighting the neighbourhood. Burnley-based Calico Homes have been awarded immediate possession following a three-month closure notice on a property in the town’s Chiltern Avenue.
Collaborative action was taken by Calico’s community safety team, Burnley Borough Council, the police and residents on the street. Neighbours came forward to report the disturbances and provided evidence to proceed with legal action. In May Burnley Combined Court awarded a three-month closure notice on the property. The significant step was made after witness statements by residents bringing light to the severity of the situation.
Residents felt confident to come forward and report the disturbances after another closure order followed by repossession of a nearby property in Pleasington Grove was completed within six months of the tenant moving in. Calico Homes’ community safety team use a harm-centred approach when tackling anti-social behaviour.
