The industrial action is over a long-running dispute regarding a pay rise that Unite claims is a"pay cut disguised as a rise" because inflation is currently running at over 10 per cent.Unite regional officer Jeff Hodge said: “Strikes will cause severe disruption across the region.

"This will be entirely Arriva’s fault for offering a pay cut disguised as a rise while our members are struggling with the cost-of-living crisis." Arriva has stated it “remains committed” to resolving the strike and continues to encourage Unite to ballot on the latest pay offer. A statement reads: “We will continue to keep our customers and stakeholders updated, we apologise for the inconvenience this will cause across the region, particularly as our schools return for a new academic year.”
