🔴 Margaret Ferrier could now face a by-election after breaching Covid rules in 2020 by travelling by train from Scotland to England while positive for the virus

The move is likely to lead to a contest in Ms Ferrier’s constituency, which she won for the SNP with a majority of 5,230 in the 2019 general election.

The Scottish First Minister has previously acknowledged that retaining the seat will be a big challenge for his party, which has seen its support fall since the resignation of Nicola Sturgeon and the ongoing police investigation into its finances and funding. Ferrier has already been ordered to complete a 270-hour community payback order by a court after admitting culpably and recklessly exposing the public “to the risk of infection, illness and death”.
