Justice Minister Helen McEntee will bring plans to Cabinet on Wednesday morning asking her colleagues to agree to Ireland opting into the EU Asylum and Migration pact
New border procedures to quickly process people who are unlikely to be granted international protection in Ireland will be introduced under new plans to overhaul Ireland’s immigration laws.
The pact will replace the International Protection Act of 2015 within the next two years. Sources said it will be “the biggest reform in Irish immigration law in decades”. Elsewhere, Integration Minister Roderic O’Gorman will bring the long-awaited Comprehensive Accommodation Strategy for International Protection applicants to Cabinet.
Transport Minister Eamon Ryan will look for approval for a new draft transport strategy which aims to manage and reduce congestion, helping to make the country’s overall transport system work better for everyone.
