Cadbury hit by ‘shrinkflation’ as the size of Easter eggs smaller than last year - but same price
Cadbury's Easter eggs have been hit by ‘shrinkflation’. Their size has been reduced this year - but prices have mostly remained the same.
However, despite the smaller size the eggs are being sold at similar prices to last year, according to The Sun. This means it works out more expensive per gram of chocolate, another example of inflation hitting grocery prices. Its large-sized Flake Easter egg that used to weigh 249g in 2022 has been reduced by 17.5g, with this year's version weighing 231.5g. However, the price of this treat remains at €10.99 the same price as last year in Tesco.
The brand's smaller eggs have also been impacted with Cadbury's Dairy Milk Freddo Faces Easter egg shrinking by 26g from 122g to 96g but costing €1.50 each in Tesco, or €1 with a clubcard. Last year you could get three of the 122g small eggs for €3. The strategy is used to boost or maintain profit margins and is mainly utilised by companies in the food and drink industry.
