California flood, debris flow threats will peak with a powerhouse AtmosphericRiver Sunday and Monday.
Most of the storm's windy punch will remain over the eastern Pacific Ocean since the intensification of the low-pressure system will happen well off the Northwest U.S. coastline.
That may be followed by another storm system in the late Wednesday - Thursday timeframe that may target Washington and Oregon more than Northern California.Many areas of Northern California especially north of Interstate 80, will likely pick up at least 3 inches of additional rain through Monday. Much of the central and southern Sierra could pick up 1 to 3 feet of heavy, wet snow through Monday. This could make travel difficult and prompt road closures, including Interstate 80 and U.S. Highway 50, among others.Despite a long-term drought , there is a danger in this wet pattern.
