The Merrion Hotel is launching the 2024 edition of its biennial contemporary art award, The Merrion Plinth, which began in 2019.

The Merrion is inviting professional artists to enter its open submission competition from now until April 19 and is welcoming all forms of contemporary art. The aim of The Merrion is and always has been to support living artists by sponsoring this prize which honours outstanding talent. As dedicated supporters of visual art of the late 19th and 20th century, The Merrion Hotel is very proud to sponsor this prize with a €5,000 bursary for the talented winner.

The ultimate aim of this competition is to provide a platform for artists to bring their work to new audiences and to be seen alongside some of the great Irish artists of the last century. The winner’s art will be displayed in and amongst the Merrion collection, which holds some very significant artworks relevant to the history of Irish visual culture. By doing so The Merrion is promoting the importance of visual art being made today.

The selected artwork will be exhibited in The Merrion’s glass link which is located after the foyer and on the way to the Garden Room restaurant.Susan was presented with the prize of €5,000 by Mr Lochlann Quinn, Chairman of the Merrion at a reception in the hotel. This is Susan’s work ‘Liminal Space’ which can currently be seen in the Merrion’s glass link.The Merrion is inviting professional artists to enter this open submission competition from now up until April 19.
