Experts warn that the social welfare increase will not be sufficient to help those struggling cost of living as they call for €25 increase promised back in 2007
Experts have warned that the weekly payment rate rise of €12, as confirmed in Budget 2024, ‘falls short’ in relation to the current ongoing cost of living crisis.
CEO John McGeady shared that gains to social welfare dependent households will drop by close to 46 per cent once all of the temporary supports finish up in April 2024. John expressed that whilst temporary solutions help in the immediate moment, there will be a significant drop in financial support for low income households once the temporary solutions are used up by next April.
A number of temporary measures have been set out in Budget 2024, including a €200 Living Alone boost, a €400 working family payment, and a €300 fuel allowance bonus.
