“Although disappointing to lose on Night 2 to UFV, that was the most complete defensive performance weekend from the players to date,” Jennings said. “If they continue to stay hungry and not satisfied, then we will continue to trend in a direction of ‘growth’ leading into the final three weekends of regular-season play.”
This weekend’s series features two of the top offences in all of Canada, with Calgary averaging 75.6 points per game, and Saskatchewan topping the stat sheet with 86.3 ppg. Saskatchewan forward Carly Ahlstrom leads the way for the Huskies, averaging 19.3 ppg, placing her fourth in CW rankings, while Calgary’s top point scorer, Louise Rouse, averages 15.1.
Tip time for both Friday and Saturday’s contests is scheduled for 8 p.m., with both games being streamed live on Canada West TV.– In addition to Pack The Jack, this weekend’s action will also serve as the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the 1992-93 Canada West championship team. The majority of that squad will be in attendance and will be honoured on Saturday night.
Sawchuk’s ability to be in the right place at the right time with his no-doubter of a shot was on full display Saturday, as he made no mistake on great feeds from Yaremko and Connor Bouchard. Bouchard set Sawchuk up twice to help him complete the hat-trick and boost his league-leading point total to 43.Sawchuk and the league-leading Cougars are now off for a week before returning for the Crowchild Classic on Jan. 27 against the second-ranked Calgary Dinos at the Saddledome.
They’ll look to send the same message this year as they chase down their fifth straight CW title. The only other team to have worn that crown is the Calgary Dinos, a squad eager to improve on their fourth-place finish in 2022.
