Daniel Ricciardo’s underwhelming stint at McLaren looks set to come to an end, but will he be able to move on and revitalise his career with a new team? Many drivers have, for one reason or another, made a move during their career which didn’t quite work out as planned.
Hopes were high after some impressive performances in the Red Bull B-team and particularly given how closely matched he had been with Max Verstappen during their time as teammates.Nico Hülkenberg won their qualifying head-to-head 12:9, claimed 69 points to Sainz’s 53, and was chosen to remain at the team instead of Sainz when Ricciardo himself signed for the 2019 season.
The German had a strong reputation, having come up through the ranks with Michael Schumacher, but he found life at Williams difficult and had a particularly spiky relationship with Technical Director Patrick Head.
