'It’s absolutely amazing to be able to go back out into the community that I love and to really meet people where they’re at, sometimes on their worst day, and to be encouraging and to be light for them.”

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland police officer Vicki Przybylski is back on the job after defeating her most dangerous foe: stage four ovarian cancer.

Przybylski began working as a city police officer nearly 17 years ago. She enjoyed patrolling the streets of Cleveland and protecting residents. Then, in 2021, she went to an urgent-care clinic because she was not feeling well. A health care professional told her that she should be all right, but she should come back in a few days if her symptoms persisted.

She would eventually undergo surgery and go through chemotherapy – a treatment that kills fast-growing cells in the body and reduces cancer symptoms. Officers at the Fourth District described Przybylski as their favorite chef in the building. She always seemed happy, even while going through chemotherapy, and she was determined to get back on the road, according to a post from the Cleveland Police Fourth DistrictPrzybylski on Friday spoke of her cancer journey with a smile. She received an overpouring of support from her co-workers, her family and her church ministry. She received texts, meals and an overflow of love from them.

“It was awesome, but it was it was a really overwhelming and humbling night because that many people came out to support me,” Przybylski said. “And that was really a highlight. I know this is going to sound strange, but cancer was really a blessing.”She learned her strength had affected others. She had encouraged a woman from her gym to go to the doctor because she was not feeling well. The woman was diagnosed with a stage one cancer, and she thanked Przybylski for her support and encouragement.
