Capas residents no need to fear quarantine zone for Pinoys from Hubei: developer coronavirus
MANILA - Residents of Capas will be "kept safe and protected" from the quarantine zone for repatriated Filipinos from the epicenter of the 2019 novel coronavirus, the agency that manages the Tarlac facility said Friday.
"Preventive and precautionary measures are being put in place" in the New Clark City before it serves as the quarantine area for Filipinos from Wuhan, China, the Bases Conversion and Development Authority said in a statement. "We would like to assure the municipality of Capas and its officials that the national government will address all the issues and concerns raised following the decision of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases to use New Clark City as a quarantine site for our repatriated kababayans," it said.
"All preventive and precautionary measures are being put in place by the Task Force not only for our repatriated kababayans, but to also ensure that the adjacent communities of New Clark City and all Capaseños are kept safe and protected," it said. The statement was released hours after Capas town Mayor Reynaldo Catacutan urged the national government to reconsider the decision, saying the local government was not consulted in the "last-minute" decision. Some 50 overseas Filipino workers from Wuhan, where the pathogen originated, availed of the government's repatriation program and is expected to arrive in the country over the weekend.
