Cardiff City are planning to appeal the red card shown to forward Callum Robinson during their 1-1 draw against Coventry City.
Cardiff City intend appealing against the red card shown to Ireland international Callum Robinson today. The forward was sent off by replacement referee James Durkin in his side’s 1-1 home draw with Coventry. But Bluebirds boss Omer Riza lashed out afterwards, claiming the ref just ‘wanted to make a big call’.
Cardiff - who are second bottom of the Championship - opened the scoring in the sixth minute through Alex Robertson only for Tatushiro Sakamoto to equalise for Frank Lampard’s side 44 seconds after the break. But Robinson was sent off a minute later for making contact with the face of Bobby Thomas as he challenged for a high ball. Cardiff boss Riza fumed: “I don’t think it was a red card offence. If anyone thinks that’s a red card then I’m a monkey’s uncle. There was no malice in it at all. “It was the referee’s first Championship game and I think the moment got to him and he wanted to make a big call. I spoke to the officials and told them what I thought. The referee thought he saw it, but when he looks back I think he’ll look at it differently. “I think we will appeal it and I think it will get overturned. But in the end it was a big point for us.” Robinson has been in good form of late, scoring three goals in his last three games to make it eight for the season. The 29-year-old will hope it catches the eye of Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson, having been dropped from the international squad for the October and November games
