After ditching one stolen car for another, a man led police on a chase from Lafayette to Oakland.

A sheriff’s office helicopter then took over the pursuit, following the Audi as it drove “recklessly” into the Oakland Hills, according to the sheriff’s office. The driver then carjacked a Toyota Corolla before fleeing on foot and hiding inside an RV, the sheriff’s office said. The Oakland Police Department and California Highway Patrol responded to the scene, helping to set up a perimeter around the RV. Law enforcement officers ordered the suspect to come out multiple times, according to the sheriff’s office. He eventually did and was taken into custody.
The suspect was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on charges of felony evasion, carjacking, vehicle theft, receiving stolen property, obstruction, hit and run and probation and parole violations. He is being held without bail.
