McGuigan was speaking ahead of a BBC documentary about McGuigan’s Gym

The relationship between the two former world champions broke down in 2017 when Frampton left McGuigan’s Cyclone Promotions after eight years before signing as a fighter for the now-defunct MTK firm. It was an acrimonious split which led to a high-profile multi-million pound legal battle.

Frampton took legal action over alleged withheld earnings from his bouts with McGuigan taking a counter suit claiming The Jackal was in breach of contract when he walked out. Both denied any wrongdoing in the High Court proceedings before it was eventually settled on confidential terms in November 2020. Since then relations between the two have continued to be turbulent. On Sunday Frampton posted a screenshot of the definition of the word narcissist to his official 'X' page.

It came after a Sunday Times interview with McGuigan where he claimed The Jackal “knows he could not have achieved anything without me or my family”. The interview took place ahead of the release of a four-part BBC documentary about McGuigan’s Gym with the former featherweight champion speaking about his feelings towards Frampton now.

“Just a disappointment. Pretty deep disappointment," said McGuigan. “I took him into my home; made him part of my family. I didn’t take a penny off him for over two years he won the Commonwealth title. "Very disappointing that he went off to join Daniel Kinahan. That’s it. We’ve gone on. Shane has produced champion after champion. He can say what he wants but he knows he could not have achieved anything without me or my family and the work that we put into him.”
