Arizona's first two hits didn't come until the sixth inning. But they were home runs, and that was all the Wildcats would need to top GCU.
Grand Canyon pitcher Carter Young boosted his confidence, taking a no-hitter into the sixth against the No. 15-ranked baseball team in the nation.
"I knew coming it was going to be a dogfight," Young said."They're one of the best-hitting teams in the country. I executed my pitches, probably the best I've done all year." The six innings he worked Tuesday was his longest outing of the season. He struck out seven and walked two and gave up the two hits, both home runs, throwing 88 pitches.
Former Peoria Liberty High pitcher Chandler Murphy pitched the first four innings for Arizona, giving up a run in the first on a fielder's choice. Left-handler Eric Orloff was perfect through 3 1/3 innings, before struggling in the eighth.
