Nearby flats affected by the smoke were evacuated
The cause of a fire in a home in Northampton remains unknown according to Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service . The fire started in a bin but was so bad it filled three floors of the property with smoke.
Fire crews were called out to the flat blaze on Camborne Close in the Delapre area of Northampton shortly before 7.30pm on Thursday, December 8. Three crews attended the scene and found smoke was affecting all three floors of the building. The crews started tackling the fire with a hose reel jet, while fans were used to clear the smoke away from the stairwell so residents could be evacuated. One person had to be led to safety from the flat by crews wearing breathing apparatus.Crews found a bin had caught fire in a bin store on the ground floor of the block of flats. and NFRS confirmed everyone was safely accounted for.
After 45 minutes of tackling the blaze, crews managed to extinguish the fire by 8.15pm. However, freezing temperatures meant the fire service then requested the attendance of the highways team to grit the area due to hose water on the floor. In their report of the fire on Friday, December 9, NFRS said "the cause of the fire is currently unknown." Responding to a request from Northants Live, a spokesman for the fire service confirmed today, Monday December 12, that the cause remains a mystery.READ NEXT:
