A secondary-school teacher diagnosed with breast cancer has urged the Government to intervene and cap parking charges for patients after she had to pay €1,000 while undergoing treatment
Tara Doonan, a secondary-school teacher from Killeshandra, Co Cavan has called for hospital parking charges to be capped following a distressing ordeal during her battle with breast cancer.
During June to November last year, Tara underwent maintenance treatment and received antibody sessions every three weeks that left her physically drained. Following her appeal to the clamping appeals officer, the NTA responded: “While the clamping appeals officer acknowledges and sympathises with the circumstances which gave rise to this clamping event, and notes the appellant’s submissions, there does not appear to have been any error, or non-compliance with statutory vehicle clamping regulations, on the part of the parking controller.”
Despite leaving home early in the morning, she frequently encountered a lack of available spaces upon arrival.
