The CBI's new boss Rain Newton-Smith has revealed that the firm will get a new name following the sexual harassment scandal that saw several companies, like John Lewis, jump ship.
The Confederation of British Industry will be getting a new name as part of its re-brand in the wake of the recentIts new boss has promised a ‘root and branch’ reform after it was outed for hiring ‘culturally toxic’ staff and failing to fire people accused of sexually harassing female colleagues.
Rain Newton-Smith said: ‘Personally, over time, I’m sure we’re going to see a new name for the CBI, but that’s just the wrapper that goes on the outside.The 47-year-old, who was formerly the CBI’s chief economist for nine years, insisted to the Financial Times: ‘I’ve always addressed wrongdoing when I’ve seen it.
‘If any of my staff have ever come to me with issues, I have listened to them and made sure they were supported, and that’s the culture I want to build.’ More than 50 large companies, including John Lewis and NatWest, ditched the business group after a scandal followed two allegations of rape which came out in The Guardian last week., saying a ‘small minority of staff’ had ‘regressive and in some cases abhorrent attitudes’ to the women they worked with.
