The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a notice of funding opportunity for supplemental HIV surveillance activities that will improve understanding of barriers and gaps in HIV prevention services that may lead to continued HIV transmission or delayed diagnosis in the era of multiple testing modalities and prevention options such as PrEP.
This NOFO will support health departments in conducting enhanced public health surveillance of people diagnosed with HIV during the earliest and latest stages of infection . It is an effort to understand their recent experiences with HIV prevention and testing services and the system- and individual-level barriers that led to failures in early diagnosis and prevention.
Recipients of this funding will identify, locate, and recruit all persons in their jurisdiction diagnosed in the past year with stage 0 or stage 3 infection for participation in behavioral interviews conducted by a CDC contractor. Recipients of this funding will also engage local community partners to ensure that appropriate approaches are used to recruit participants and to disseminate findings to the community.
Eligible applicants include all U.S. state health departments, the six local health departments with independent HIV surveillance programs, the District of Columbia Department of Health, and the territorial health departments. Details about this funding opportunity, eligibility, pre-application technical assistance, and how to apply can be found on the CDC website at:
