A major redevelopment project at Ceannt station in Galway is underway, transforming the station into a modern and accessible transport hub.

A €70 million redevelopment of Ceannt station is underway, expanding the number of platforms from two to five and creating space for commuter services. The project will also see the station's roof replaced with a replica of the original 1850s design by Richard Turner. Construction is expected to be substantially complete by mid-2026. During construction, rail and bus services will continue, although the car park on the southern side of the station has been temporarily closed.

A new facade and entrance are being built on the south side of the station, leading into a modern 'train hall' with new retail units and accessible toilets. The new platforms will accommodate additional trains on the Dublin to Galway route, as well as commuter trains from Ennis, Athenry and Oranmore. The redeveloped station will also be accessible from the proposed Augustine Hill development directly south of the station, an 8.5-acre urban regeneration project. The existing northern entrance is being renovated, with an emphasis on accessibility, including an improved Bus Éireann ticket office and better connectivity between bus and rail services. Future bus bay expansion is also planned. A spokesman for Irish Rail said the project would make Ceannt station 'possibly one of the best integrated transport hubs we have in the centre of a city.
