The new Irish government faces the complex task of progressing legislation banning goods from the Occupied Palestinian Territories. The recent ceasefire in Gaza and the election of Donald Trump, a staunch supporter of Israel, are likely to influence deliberations on this politically sensitive issue. While the ceasefire may ease some pressure for swift action, proponents of the bill remain committed to addressing the injustices faced by Palestinians due to Israeli settlements. The government also faces potential economic headwinds from US multinationals supporting Israel and must navigate the legal complexities surrounding the bill in light of the International Court of Justice's ruling on Israeli settlements.

He said there are “still challenges and the existing Bill would need to be redrafted and amended very substantively”.
