Celebrity Big Brother star Louis Walsh has shared his diagnosis of a rare form of blood cancer, Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia (WM). The 71-year-old revealed his condition during a conversation on the ITV show. Walsh explained that he was unaware of his illness until he went to the hospital and was diagnosed with the slow-growing type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. WM occurs when B-cells in the bone marrow develop incorrectly, leading to a lack of plasma cells that release antibodies to fight infection.

When asked how he dealt with the Covid lockdown, he replied: "I was sick, and I think nobody knew I was sick. I had cancer - a mild version, a rare one, in my blood. I didn't even know I had it until I went to the hospital.

The rare form of blood cancer is caused when a certain type of white blood cell, called B-cells, develops incorrectly in the bone marrow.
