The successful chef realised he needed to make a change after turning to food during a difficult time, and now feels happier and healthier after losing three stone
Irish chef Kevin Dundon has opened up about his journey with health, weight loss and finding a healthier headspace.
“I was at a crossroads in my life, wondering where am I at? I’m 57. I knew I needed to refocus my mind and I think I was upset with myself, mostly for what I had let myself become,” he told Independent.ie. “That’s when it all came in on me. I reckon it was burnout. I don’t understand why — I’ve always worked really hard. But that’s when the weight started to go on.”
“I was totally depressed. I would definitely say I was depressed. I have great friends. There are five of us — and two in particular I could talk to about anything. I also had my wife, Catherine, so it wasn’t as if I didn’t have anyone to talk to.”“When you’re in the public eye, there are people who would come up to you and say, ‘Jeez, I didn’t realise you were that fat’. Oh, my God, you wouldn’t believe what they would say. ‘You’re a lot fatter than I thought you were’.
