Daizen Maeda's suspension for Celtic has been reduced, allowing him to play in the Champions League against Bayern Munich.
Celtic received a major boost ahead of their Champions League play-off, first leg against Bayern Munich on Wednesday with the news that top scorer Daizen Maeda has been cleared to face the German giants. The Japan international, who has found the back of the net 21 times this season, had been facing a two-game ban following his red card in Celtic's penultimate league phase match against Young Boys.
However, the Scottish champions announced on Monday that the suspension has been successfully reduced to one game on appeal. The 27-year-old served the original ban during a 4-2 defeat at Aston Villa last month. Maeda has been in scintillating form recently, scoring five goals in his last two appearances, and his presence will give Celtic a fighting chance of pulling off an upset on their return to the Champions League knockout phase after a 12-year absence. 'He's got to be one of the most in-form players in all of Europe right now,' said Celtic defender Alistair Johnston earlier on Monday. 'He can't seem to miss right now. When he's scoring and creating he adds just another dimension. But also everyone knows his work rate is unbelievable.'In other news, Celtic were drawn at home to Hibernian for their Scottish Cup quarter-final tie. The matches will take place on the weekend of 8-9 March. The other quarter-final matchups see Aberdeen facing Queen's Park, who caused a major upset this weekend by knocking out Rangers. Hearts will play Dundee and Livingston will face St Johnstone.
