Preliminary Results of the 2022 Census became available on Thursday and revealed that Ireland’s population had hit 5.1 million - the highest it’s been since before the famine.
The results also provided an insight into the growth of each county, showing just how the country is developing.
The likes of Longford and Meath saw the biggest growth, but what is the full breakdown of where people are living in 2022?Carlow In the 2022 Census, the population of Co Carlow was 61,931. In 2016, it was 56,932. This is an increase of 8.8%, or 4,999 people.Co Cavan saw a 6.6% increase in its population, jumping from 76,176 in 2016 to 81,201 in 2022. It did not see a higher percentage increase than the national rate.118,817 people lived in Co Clare in 2016, with that number increasing to 127,419 in 2022. This is an increase of 7.2%.
These results are preliminary, given the fact the Census was only completed and collected just over two months ago. Further detail is expected to come between April and December 2023 and will include themed publications on topics such as housing and commuting
