Friends, family and famous faces are gathering at the Mansion House in Dublin to remember the outstanding RTÉ broadcaster and journalistCharlie passed away "peacefully" on Monday, his family said in a statement, surrounded by his family in his final hours in the care of Wicklow Hospice.
Family, friends and ex-colleagues of the former RTE correspondent gathered in Dublin’s Mansion House to remember and pay tribute to the renowned broadcaster. Burke, meanwhile, had tears in his eyes while recalling Charlie's coverage of the 9/11 attacks, speaking of his determination to cross the Mexican border after an assignment in Colombia.Dympna Moroney, Series Editor of TV News at RTÉ tells mourners: "There was never a dull moment with Charlie". His former RTE colleague George Lee, with whom he broke the National Irish Bank tax evasion scandal in 1998, was also in attendance.
