The trailer for Charlie uncovering the final investigative story of his life has been released as it shows him getting to the bottom of a 40-year-old true crime secret
A documentary set to be released next month will show Charlie Bird breaking one last story before his passing earlier this year.Ransom '79 explores the late RTÉ journalist investigating "an extraordinary true crime story, one that had remained secret for decades - the attempt by a criminal gang to extort millions from the Irish government".
The film shows Charlie investigating a ransom demand on the Government for £5 million by a criminal gang back in 1979. Speaking in the trailer for the documentary, Charlie states: "I have a terminal illness but I still have a journalistic nose for a good story." "It was a privilege to travel around the country with him as he uncovered a truly unique story with his friend Colin Murphy. I know Charlie would be proud that his work has made it to the big screen, we miss him every day and feel very grateful to have helped him tell one last story," he said.
