In an effort to reverse declining attendance, Cheltenham Festival has implemented significant changes to its races and overall attendee experience. The new measures aim to address concerns regarding ticket prices, food & drink costs, accommodation expenses, race competitiveness, and past logistical issues like muddy car parks.
Cheltenham has announced a raft of changes to its Festival races and the racegoer experience to try to win back fans to the famous March meeting.
The price of tickets, the cost of food and drink and expensive accommodation were blamed for the fall while criticism was levelled at the competitiveness of the races which Willie Mullins continued to dominate. Cheltenham’s owner, the Jockey Club, took on board many of the issues during a wholesale review which will be rolled out by next year’s Festival.Key changes to the Festival experienceThe price of a pint of Guinness, unchanged since October 2022, has gone up to £7.80 from £7.50 ahead of the new jumps season.
“We understand that when people are paying to attend premium events they expect a premium experience and that has been at the front of our minds when committing to significant investment to improve our car parks, launching a park and ride system and offering more course-facing areas to enjoy a drink while watching the racing.
