Thousands of parents will receive their February Child Benefit payment early due to the St Brigid's Day bank holiday.
Parents are being reminded of an upcoming change to the Child Benefit payment date for February. Thousands of people will receive their Child Benefit payment, originally scheduled for Tuesday, February 4th, this week instead. Due to the St Brigid's Day bank holiday , banks and post offices will be closed on Monday, February 3rd.
This means that any social welfare payments due on Monday, as well as Child Benefit due on Tuesday, will be sent or made available on Friday, January 31st, or Saturday, February 1st. This schedule change will also affect anyone expecting to receive the New Baby Grant on February 4th. This brand new grant, introduced this month as part of Budget 2025, will be paid out monthly to eligible families. The grant is paid on the same day as Child Benefit, the first Tuesday of each month. The grant of €280 is paid alongside the child's first Child Benefit payment of €140, meaning that overall, parents will receive €420 in respect of their new baby. It was rolled out in January for children born or adopted after December 1st. New parents with no other children will be sent a form to register for Child Benefit after they register their child's birth, or parents with existing children who welcome a new baby will automatically have their new child added to their existing Child Benefit claim and be notified when they are due to receive Child Benefit in respect of their new baby. The St Brigid's Day bank holiday was only recently introduced in 2023, so it's easy for people to forget about it and how it may affect payment arrangements. Don't be caught out! Below is a list of Child Benefit payment dates for the rest of the year - as well as the months they're likely to be paid early
