An eight-year-old girl died Wednesday night after she was hit by a van in a Mesquite neighborhood near North Beltline Road.
The girl, whose identity is not being released, was hit by the van when she ran to cross the street to another waiting vehicle, Mesquite police said in a news release. Police were dispatched to the accident around 7:45 p.m. after they received calls about a traffic accident.
The girl was taken to a nearby hospital where she died from her injuries. The van driver remained at the scene after the accident and no criminal charges have been filed, according to police. “This is a heartbreaking tragedy, and the condolences and prayers of the department and city are with the families of everyone involved,” the release concluded..
