Tantrums are really difficult for parents. I remember them well with my own three children but unfortunately if nothing changes, they won’t either.

There is so much going on in terms of brain development with young children and toddlers in particular, that they often simply can’t cope with a particular feeling and that frustration comes out in the form of a tantrum. They need their feelings to be validated. So, for example, if I said to my child: “It sounds like you’ve had a bad day. I’m guessing you’re upset. I’m guessing you feel that since the baby came that we don’t have any time for you. Is that how you feel? Well, I can’t let you hit things. But when you feel like that, you can always come to me and when you’re sitting on my knee, we’ll do a story or little game.
