Childminders in Ireland can now apply for a grant of up to €1,000 to invest in equipment for their services. The grant, open to both registered and unregistered childminders, aims to support the development of high-quality childcare provision. Up to 75% of the total amount will be paid in advance to help with upfront costs. This initiative is part of a broader effort to reform the childcare sector, including extending subsidies to childminders through the National Childcare Scheme (NCS).
Minister for Education Norma Foley. She said childminders play an 'essential part in the provision of childcare in all parts of the country.'
Reforming the childcare sector, including the extension of National Childcare Scheme subsidies to childminders, is a goal of a development plan for the sector signed off in 2021 by previous children’s minister Roderic O’Gorman.
