Involvement of anti-immigration National Party and Irish Freedom Party widely condemned

The song Come Out Ye Black and Tans was also played through a large speaker. Gardaí maintained a presence around the hotel throughout the weekend amid fears protesters may try to gain entry.

Over the weekend, the National Party blanketed the area in leaflets saying “send them home to save our home”, locals said. She also criticised an “information vacuum” from Government authorities and said the Department of Integration requires more staff to handle the large number of asylum seekers arriving here.

Lionel Duffy, coordinator of Youth Reach Ballymun, said he was “shocked and appalled” by the protests and that he has concerns about what young people in the area are seeing online. “We are all coming together to see what is the best response to show the vulnerable coming into the community that we are here for them,” she told RTÉ Radio’s Today with Claire Byrne show.

“It has evidence of far rights claws in it,” he said in comments which drew a furious response on right-wing Telegram channels.
