🦷 Dentists are voting with their feet and going private on a scale described to theipaper as a ‘haemorrhage’ of experienced staff SerinaSandhu1 reports:
has learnt, their parents pay for private treatment for themselves as a quid pro quo.
“Children are turning up with problems that are too advanced to actually do anything to change the teeth,” he adds. “It’s getting worse. Prior to Covid, you would see the off one with maybe just one or two decayed teeth, whereas now we’re seeing them with six, seven, eight decayed teeth.”“Basically, adult teeth are guided where to come through by baby teeth. If those baby teeth aren’t there, then the adult teeth can come through in any position really, which is going to affect them as teenagers because they’re going to need orthodontic treatment.
“This is disgraceful and holding people to ransom for their children to be able to access basic dental treatment.” “The Government and NHSE have both taken action in recent months, but there are still fundamental changes required to fix NHS dentistry. We urgently need to make it accessible and affordable for everyone, while focusing on tackling inequalities.”
