The movie will be centered on a pool cleaner named Darren Barrenman who sets out to foil a water heist while dealing with corrupt city officials and a femme fatale.Pine spoke about working on Poolman during an interview with, where he noted that the idea for the film was born during a light-hearted conversation with director Patty Jenkins and her husband.
The performer noted that, although he never envisioned himself as a filmmaker, he decided to keep working on the project's idea. He recalled: 'we transposed our story onto Chinatown and then we were just off to the races. Then we just made it our own and we wrote it, I think, in a deep month and a half.'
