The Christmas Bonus will be paid out to over a million social welfare recipients in Ireland next week, providing a much-needed boost during the holiday season.
A week from now, over a million people in Ireland will receive the Christmas Bonus as part of Budget 2025 's cost of living package. This bonus, confirmed back in October, sees social welfare recipients paid double their weekly rate. The payment, which will be included with your usual social welfare payment, is automatic and requires no application. The bonus amount for 2024 is 100% of your normal weekly payment, with a minimum payment of €20.
For those receiving Domiciliary Care Allowance (DCA), paid monthly, the bonus is 100% of the weekly DCA rate, calculated independently of other payments. One unique aspect of this year's bonus is that individuals receiving two eligible social welfare payments will receive the bonus twice. Examples include a One-Parent Family Payment and the Domiciliary Care Allowance, or a half-rate Carer’s Allowance alongside a primary payment. Here's a list of qualifying social welfare payments: You will receive a Christmas Bonus if you are getting a VTOS or Youthreach training allowance for at least 12 months. If you were receiving a qualifying payment immediately before your training allowance, you can combine this time to reach 12 months. Note that Fuel Allowance is not a qualifying payment for the Christmas Bonus
