The doctor turned radio presenter feels she has been given a new lease of life and second chance after recovering from two hip replacement surgeries successfully
The Newstalk star suffered constant pain in her hips due to an autoimmune condition but initially buried her head in the sand and was in denial that something was wrong.
The doctor turned broadcaster hoped the pain would go away but realised she needed help once she was forced to rely on a mobility scooter to get around. "I realised I was sitting down on the toilet to brush my teeth. I couldn't stand at the bathroom sink to put on my make-up, so I was sitting on the side of the bath.
Reduced mobility and incredible pain meant Ciara had to come to terms with the fact she needed medical assistance and surgery to get better. And while being in denial didn't make the problem go away, the radio presenter explained how it served as a coping mechanism. "Little by little the balloon of denial inflated. The thing that I was trying to avoid was already there."
