“I found myself in the middle of a social media storm and I had no idea what I was doing or how to cope with it'
Dr Ciara Kelly was the resident medical professional on RTE’s Operation Transformation from 2014 to 2019.
“It was a hard show to work on for lots of reasons. First of all, the hours were all over the place on top of everything else I was doing. I had my first real experience of a social media storm on Operation Transformation. “I went into work and the secretaries were all frowning at me because the phone lines were taken up with journalists wanting to speak to me. Everyone basically wanted to know if I was going to apologise for what I said, but then my first patient sat down and I was thinking, ‘here we go, God only knows how this is going to go’. She said ‘I’d like to thank you for what you said on the telly last night about alcohol.
“I learned a lot of lessons through that, I was very naive. Unless you’ve been in those situations, you’ve no idea what they’re like”.
